The Civic Data Lab: Unleashing the Power of Data for Societal Impact is a day-long event dedicated to empowering changemakers with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to harness the power of their data. This event aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application in the CSO sector, fostering a collaborative environment where to enhance societal impact.

Bring your data problems and leave with practical solutions provided by experts! The event will also provide a platform for networking, learning, and collaboration among researchers, data experts, and practitioners.

ABOUT THE RESEARCH CENTER FOR CIVIL SOCIETY,
The Research Center for Civil Society is a program of the Center for the Study of Democracy, funded by the Romanian-American Foundation, that supports civil society in driving positive social impact. Developed in response to the sector’s needs, the Center’s mission is to empower organizations with the skills and tools to collect and use relevant, reliable data to address pressing societal issues. We do this by providing open-access research, training, resources, and specialized services (research consultancy).

WHAT WE DO
  1. Research: We conduct applied and fundamental studies to map and better understand the Romanian CSO sector and support the CSOs in understanding their intervention areas and their beneficiaries.
  2. Training: We offer courses and expert training to boost organizational capacity in data and research literacy and impact measurement and management (IMM).
  3. Community Outreach: We bridge the gap between academia and civil society, bringing research-based knowledge closer to practice and providing research services to CSOs and their key stakeholders.
OUR APPROACH
  • Interdisciplinary Research: We bring together experts from various fields to tackle contemporary civil society challenges.
  • Capacity Building: We help organizations improve their data literacy, impact measurement and management practices, and overall effectiveness through training and customized consultancy.
  • Research Consultancy Services: We offer practical solutions to existing issues through designing and implementing tailored studies and analyses.
  • A platform for dialogue and collaboration: Part of our community outreach is acting as a platform for dialogue and collaboration. We aim to foster dialogue between civil society, business, academia, and policymakers/public institutions by functioning as a ‘learning arena’ where these stakeholders can meet and discuss freely, increasing mutual trust and facilitating the development of joint initiatives.
The Center aims to become a trusted partner for civil society organizations seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills to become more impactful. Join us at www.civicresearch.center!
